Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV), which has already claimed the lives of two elephants at the zoo, has been confirmed to have positive test results for a third elephant by Dublin Zoo, reports Breaking News.
The zoo’s management stated in a statement on Wednesday that the third elephant’s age may be to its benefit. Asha, the Asian elephant in question, is 17 years old.
“Being older, her body has had more time to develop antibodies to fight the infection, potentially giving her a greater chance of survival, reports Breaking News.
“Our dedicated veterinary team is working tirelessly to provide Asha with the best possible care, and we are closely monitoring her condition.”
The zoo is optimistic about a successful result because of early discovery and treatment, even though EEHV is a “serious and unpredictable illness,” according to the statement, reports Breaking News.
