According to an airline representative, Aer Lingus flights that have already been cancelled due to IALPA pilots’ industrial action “will remain that way,” reports RTE.
In an effort to settle its wage dispute with Aer Lingus, the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association yesterday suggested accepting Labour Court suggestions.
While it waits for the results of a pilots’ poll, the union will halt its work-to-rule at the airline.
It said that prior to the vote, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 18, and end on Tuesday, July 23, it would have a number of meetings with members, reports RTE.
That being said, this morning an Aer Lingus representative stated that “unfortunately, those flights already cancelled will remain that way”.
The decision made by the Labour Court, which calls for a 17.75% wage raise for pilots over a four-year period, is a “significant win” for the union, according to IALPA President Captain Mark Tighe.
“It’s not quite the inflation that we were discussing but we are looking at two years from now and pilots will be 19.2% better off than they were, which is some ways towards inflation,” Captain Mark Tighe stated, reports RTE.
In an interview with RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, he noted that the arrangement did not include any improvements to working conditions agreed upon by the pilots.
Although he expressed sympathy for any inconvenience caused to the passengers, he pointed out that management had the opportunity to address the problems well before strike action started, reports RTE.
