Gardaí have begun an investigation after an inmate at Cork Prison claimed that he was sexually assaulted by fellow inmates.
It is understood the investigation comes after the man aged in his 20s was allegedly assaulted at the prison on the Rathmore Road, last week.
The Irish Prison say they are assisting Gardaí in their investigation after the man reported the incident to guards at the prison.
They added that the man was brought to the Cork Sexual Assault Treatment Unit, following the incident.
