Shameful: Ireland now has 900 children who are homeless and living in ‘family hubs’

Welcome to Ireland 2019 where 900 children are homeless and living in so-called ‘family hubs’.

Family hubs are basically refurbished locales where a number of families are accommodated on a ‘temporary’ basis, which usually extends to many months. Family hubs were introduced as an alternative to sending families into hotels or B&Bs.

A number of homeless groups have voiced serious opposition to such hubs citing examples from overseas of how detrimental they can be to children.

Concerns are now being raised about the impact that long-term stays on these places may have on children’s mental health.

The homelessness situation is steadily becoming worse, and the latest move of the Government is to show support for so-called ‘cuckoo funds’, which are corporate entities with a lot of financial clout purchasing housing developments en masse to turn them into high-rent traps.

What do you think of the Government’s attitude on homelessness? Let us know on the comments below.
