Garda officer seriously injured after being dragged by a SUV in Co Limerick




A Garda officer has been seriously injured after he was dragged alongside a SUV in Co Limerick last weekend.

It is understood that the officer sustained a number of injuries after he attempted to stop a motorist suspected of drink driving.

The Garda who is recovering at University Hospital Limerick, sustained a number of injuries including a broken ankle, numerous cuts and bruises, followimg the incident.

It is believed the incident happened on Friday in Birdhill, Co Tipperary at approximatley 6.50pm, when the Garda approached the vehicle after receiving a report of a man suspected of drink driving.

It is believed the driver ignored the Garda officer’s request to remain stationery and he proceeded to drive towards the Limerick Road at a considerable speed with the Garda officer hanging onto the side of the car.

GardaĆ­ say a man aged in his 50s has been arrested and was taken to Nenagh Garda Station.
