Garda pleads guilty to assaulting a woman and two males over 11 year period

A police officer has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman and two males over an 11-year period.

Mark Doyle, who was stationed in Dublin and is currently suspended, admitted to six counts of assault causing harm to the three victims between 2008 and 2019.

He was remanded on bail and will be sentenced in January. The charges against him relate to eight counts of assault causing harm to three victims over an 11-year period.

Two charges were taken into account and he pleaded guilty to the remaining six when they were put to him in court. Doyle admitted to assaulting a woman causing her harm on dates between 2008 and 2019, as well as assaulting two young males causing them harm.

One of the males was assaulted on an unknown date between 2008 and 2009, and the other was assaulted in September 2017.

All of the charges are contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

Doyle was arrested and charged following an investigation by the Garda National Protective Services Bureau. The attacks on the three victims commenced in 2008/2009 and continued in 2010 and 2011 before resuming in 2017 and 2019.

Judge Orla Crowe remanded Doyle on continuing bail to appear again for sentencing in January.
