Garda say they fear copycat arson attacks after 16 fires in past year

Gardaí have expressed their significant concerns regarding the rise in arson assaults on properties associated with housing individuals seeking international protection, as well as the possibility of a cascading impact.

This month, three buildings in County Dublin, County Longford, and County Tipperary have been attacked and set on fire. In the past year, sixteen properties have been targeted, many of which were never meant to be used as housing for applicants seeking international protection.

Although no one has been charged with a crime and no one has been taken into custody in connection with the arson assaults on any of the buildings, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee expressed her confidence that those responsible will be held accountable.

According to Gardaí, there appears to be no central planning behind the attacks.
