Gardaí admit they are investigating alleged attack on woman in Dungarvan by men who had been described as “non-nationals” by victims family who describe attack as attempted “gang-rape” #IrelandisFull

Gardaí in Dungarvan, Co. Wexford are investigating an alleged assault on a young woman which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 19th.

Garda were forced to comment on the incident after people connected to the alleged victim claimed they were told by Gardaí to take down social media posts detailing what they described as an attempted “gang rape” by men who were “non-Irish”.

The alleged gang rape took place when the young woman became temporarily separated from her friend before being set upon by a group of men described by people close to her on social media as “non-nationals” who ripped off items of her clothing before a woman hearing her screams intervened and the attackers fled.

Viral social media posts, written by people claiming to be close to the victim allege that the Gardaí are suppressing information about the alleged attackers for political motives and in doing so further endangering the public.

A family member of the alleged victim told Gript that the Gardaí had asked them to take down social media posts describing the attackers as non-Irish and noted that this seemed more important to the Garda than ensuring other women and girls were aware of the danger.
