GardaĆ are investigating threatening letter sent to family home of soldier Cathal Crotty

A threatening letter that was sent to soldier Cathal Crotty’s family home in County Clare is being looked into by GardaĆ, reports Breaking News.

The 22-year-old was recently given a three-year sentence that is wholly suspended for an unprovoked attack on 24 year old Natasha O’Brien on May 29, 2022 in Limerick City. Crotty faces termination from the Army due to the judge’s decision to not imprison him, which prompted political controversy and demonstrations.

A prominent lawyer has been chosen by TĆ”naiste and Minister for Defence MicheĆ”l Martin to undertake a ā€œcomprehensive and independentā€ review of situations in which members of the Defence Forces face legal proceedings or have convictions.

The anonymous threatening letter that was addressed to Crotty’s family’s Ardnacrusha home last Wednesday and had a postmark from Dublin is being looked into by the GardaĆ, reports Breaking News.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has filed an appeal against Judge Tom O’Donnell’s sentence, and Ms. O’Brien has expressed displeasure with the attacker’s punishment and remarks made during the sentencing process.

Ms. O’Brien said in court that although she had “politely” urged Crotty to cease calling individuals names that are homophobic, he had instead seized her and attacked her, reports Breaking News.

He punched her in the face and head, according to testimony given at Limerick Circuit Court, and kept attacking her even after she collapsed to the ground and started to lose consciousness.

Following the incident, Crotty boasted to pals on social media, writing, “Two to put her down, two to put her out,” reports Breaking News.
