Gardai brag that over 2,100 drivers found speeding over Easter weekend




An Garda Síochána detected more than 2,100 drivers speeding خلال the first 72 hours of the Easter bank holiday weekend.

A national road safety operation has been in place since 7am on Thursday, April 2, reports RTE.

Gardaí are continuing mandatory intoxicant testing and operating high-visibility checkpoints, urging road users to support efforts to keep roads safe over the holiday period.

So far, 98 people have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reports RTE.

More than 250 drivers were also found using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts during the same period.

One motorist was recorded travelling at 102 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the Stillorgan Road in Co Dublin, reports RTE.

Another driver was caught travelling at 78 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on the Navan Road in Kells, Co Meath.

The road safety operation is set to continue until 7am on Tuesday, reports RTE.
