GardaĆ in Co Donegal have begun a campaign targeting drivers who are using illegal licence plates, reports Breaking News.

Several motorists were pulled over after being found with ‘non-confirming’ registration plates on their vehicles, reports Breaking News.

Officers from the Letterkenny Road Policing Unit were responsible for carrying out the operation.

Drivers were stopped and issued fines due to a variety of illegal plate offences, reports Breaking News.

Each unlawful plate, both front and rear, results in a €60 fine for motorists.

Drivers are also required to change their licence plates to comply with regulations, reports Breaking News.

The prohibited plates include those featuring customised or non-standard fonts, incorrect dimensions, colours or spacing, missing the EU flag or ā€œIRLā€ marking, and plates intended to bypass Garda ANPR systems.

A garda spokesperson said they wanted to remind motorists that all registration plates must meet Irish format and visibility standards, reports Breaking News.
