Gardai were out en force yesterday during National Slow Down Day, and their efforts yielded a total of 255 speeding drivers.
A total of 1,000 ‘speed enforcement zones’ were set up around the country during the 24h-long operation, which ended at 7am this morning.
Excessive speed is often a contributory factor in a large percentage of road crashes. 117 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.
