Gardai continue to investigate the deaths of baby boy and young girl in a burning car in Westmeath – adult woman badly injured




Gardai confirmed late on Friday that two children died in a car fire in Co Westmeath on Friday afternoon.

The alarm was sounded just before 4pm after a car with three occupants was discovered burning on a country lane in Lackan, near Multyfarnham.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to join the scene.

A baby boy was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, where he was pronounced dead.

The remains of a girl were discovered in the car at the scene. The girl’s body was removed from the scene at Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

An adult woman was treated for burns at the scene. She was flown to a hospital in Dublin. Her injuries are considered serious but are not considered life-threatening.

The scene has been studied by the Garda Technical Office and remains intact as gardai continue investigating.

They say that they’re still unsure as to what exactly led to the deaths of the children and are keeping an open mind.
