Gardai had announced that they had planned major checkpoints around the country and if the M50 in Dublin was anything to go by yesterday, then they certainly meant it.
At least 230 drivers were tested for alcohol and 20 for drugs on the M50 at Junction 16, Cherrywood, yesterday morning.
Multiple garda vehicles were present on the roadside with numerous other checkpoints around the city.
Elsewhere, checkpoints around the country were held with speed checks and unmarked garda cars patrolling the roads.
