“It’s a miracle” – Mother and baby get pulled alive from Venezuela quake rubble

US search and rescue teams working alongside local firefighters pulled a baby and his mother from the rubble days after the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

The videos, released yesterday, showed a nine-month-old baby being rescued alongside his mother, according to the Urban Search and Rescue Team from Fairfax County, Virginia, reports RTE.

Both were found alive with only minor injuries and were brought to safety.

The rescue came as the death toll from Venezuela’s devastating twin earthquakes rose above 1,400 yesterday as foreign rescue teams poured into the country and authorities pressed on with the search for survivors in the hardest-hit coastal areas, reports RTE.

Rescuers have been deployed across La Guaira and parts of Caracas, where families and volunteers have spent days pulling survivors and bodies from the debris, often citing a lack of heavy equipment and limited official presence.

Officials said more than 1,600 foreign rescuers had arrived, with additional teams expected, as part of a growing international response to the twin quakes that struck on Wednesday and triggered hundreds of aftershocks, reports RTE.

Spain’s Military Emergency Unit also released video showing the rescue of a man from the wreckage of a building in Maiquetia, reports RTE.
