Gardaí in Co Galway are appealing for information following an disgraceful burglary at the home of an elderly couple in the Craughwell area last night.
Gardai say three men forced their way into the premises in the Cregg Mulgreaney area at approximately 10pm last night.
It is believed that they proceeded to assault an 80-year-old man, they assailants then locked the elderly man into a room, while they continued to ransack his house. It is understood that the men escaped with a significant sum of money. Gardaí have since released a description of two of the attackers was around 1.83m (6ft) tall and of medium build. He was wearing dark coloured clothes. A second assailant was smaller and is said to be in his early 20s. He was wearing a white or cream coloured jacket.
The elderly man was taken to Galway University Hospital a short time later where he was treated for his injuries. Although they are not believed to be of a serious nature. Gardai also say an 80-year-old woman, who was also in the building at the time of the robbery, was not injured.
