Gardai in Limerick issue burglary warning

With the impending winter and longer dark evenings just around the corner, Gardai in Limerick have launched a burglary awareness initiative in the city and county. They will have a visible presence in shopping centres and city streets, setting up checkpoints where the citizenry can interact with Gardai and ask questions, etc.

The main aim of this initiative is to encourage homeowners to take measures to ensure their homes are secure ahead of the Winter months when the number of burglaries is expected to increase by around a
quarter. Figures show that the peak time for residential burglaries is between 5pm and 11pm during the winter months.

The analysis also shows that in nearly half of all burglaries that occur in the winter months, the burglars enter the rear the premises through the rear, while 20% of households are entered through an unsecured door or window.
