So-called “bait bikes” fitted with GPS tracker devices are being used by Gardai in an effort to catch thieves.
Bicycle thefts have soared in recent times, and Gardai are hoping that the new initiative will help deter would-be thieves, and also aid to catch those who do steal bikes.
Over 2,100 bicycles were reported stolen during the first five months of the year, with the summer months being the busiest for thieves and Gardai.
