Gardaí issue WARNING to the public about Inland Revenue telephone phishing scam

Gardaí have issued a warning to the public to be on alert regarding a telephone phishing scam.

Gardaí say they have recieved a number of calls regarding the scam which involves a male or female caller contacting members of the public and saying they are from the Inland Revenue looking for an immediate payment of a tax bill.

It is understood the scam artists give the caller a telephone number for you to call back to give your credit card details. Gardaí are urging people not to give out their credit/debit card, bank account, or PPS Number to the caller as they have no association with the Inland Revenue.

They also say the Inland Revenue, nor any Financial Institution will ever call you and ask for your PPS number or bank account details.
