Gardaí have revealed that a total of 16 people were arrested on suspicion of driving whilst intoxicated on Christmas Day.
In figures published this week, Gardai say that number marks an increase of 5 on the same day as last year.
Gardaí say that all those arrested were considered to be under the influence of drink or illegal drugs.
They added that an increase in checkpoints will continue this Christmas.
