In Co. Louth, a man in his 40s died after being hit by a car at Junction 16 on the southbound carriageway of the M1 near Dundalk in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 2:45 am.

Four people in the car were treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening. The road is closed for a technical examination, and local diversions are in place, reports RTE.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, especially anyone who was driving on the M1 between 2:30 am and 3 am and has camera footage, including dashcam, to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
