The Taoiseach was interviewed this morning on radio with Sean O’Rourke.

In what only can be described as an outlandish statement – Enda Kenny said that if the same sex marriage referendum passes, teachers in Catholic schools will be forced to say that marriage is “between two people who love each other” – almost inevitably forcing some teachers to go against their own beliefs.

Already many on the No side have condemned this statement saying that “It’s going again freedom of religious belief”, and that “Ireland is turning into a totalitarian State”.

Many have called not just for clarification but for a full retraction of Kenny’s comments.
