The Liberal has learned this evening that if the same sex marriage referendum is voted down by the people on May 22nd, the leader of Fianna Fail Micheal Martin allegedly loses his leadership.

A Fianna Fail insider told us:
“If the polls are true and people really are moving to a No vote, then there are moves in the party to have Micheal Martin replaced with someone who can bring us forward”.

“We’re not making any inroads with the public and many members believe Micheal’s time has come and passed”.

Meanwhile, with the latest polls showing the Yes side down to 53% and the No side gaining ground fast.

There’s a debate on same sex marriage tonight on Claire Byrne live on RTE 1 at 9:30 between Leo Varadkar and solicitor Patrick Treacy.
