Official figures published today by the Central Statistics Office show that the unemployment rate has fallen to 11.1%.
The rate has steadily decreased over recent months. At this time last year, the rate was 12.6%.
The number of people currently on the Live Register in the month of September stood at 370,050, which signifies a drop of 4,700 (0.1%) since August.
At its peak in 2012, unemployment hit the grim figure 15.1%.
Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has welcomed the figures, and said that “People are returning to work in significant numbers, and as the economic recovery continues to pick up pace, I am confident we will speed up that progress,”
