Government say testing could be introduced at Irish airports before Christmas

Coronavirus has arguably been in the world since Christmas 2019, but the Irish government are only now considering a new rapid testing system in Irish airports.

The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has said that he and the Government are hoping to have rapid Covid-19 testing introduced at Irish airports by Christmas.

In a move that would remove the two week rule for passengers, Ryan said the Government wants to have the system in place by December and for it to remain in place beyond that.

The testing system would inevitably remove the two week rule which currently restricts the movements of those entering the country.

Ryan said that the testing system would provide further safety for passengers who need to travel and it would also be beneficial to the economy.

However he added that it all depends on implementing the right policy.
