Government set to introduce new legislation in the coming weeks that will tackle the issue of rising rent prices

According to various reports the collation government are on the verge of introducing a new legislation that will tackle the current problem of spiraling rent prices across the county.

Sources from within the Dail say the new message which will provide “rent certainty” for tenants, will be introduced in the next few weeks. The new move however has not been plain sailing as there is a current standoff between the Fine Gael and the Labour Party’s, it is understood that both parties have different views on how to control  the continuous problem over priced rent fees as well as the prospect of tax incentives for landlords who enter into long term rent agreements.

A leading Labour TD has said the party is still “trying to convince” their fellow TD’s at Fine Gael regarding the merits of new rent control legislation. The Labor TD said: “It could be done if the Taoiseach agreed with it.”

It is highly believed if the new legislation is passed landlords will face stricter rules in the regard of increasing rent prices for their tenants. It has been reported that the new measures will include an extended notice period for introducing a rent hike, along with landlords being forced to produce details of three comparable properties in order to justify an increase.
