The Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Green Party Coalition signed an extension to ban “non essential” travel last Sunday 4th July whilst all other EU citizens can travel freely throughout the EU from 1st July.
On Sunday 4th July Fianna Fail’s Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly signed a Statutory Instrument (SI) 329 to extend the date of SI 217.
In effect, this extends the ban in all “non essential” travel such as international holidays.
The European Union digital coronavirus certificate allowing people to travel within the EU launched on July 1st and provides proof that a person has either been vaccinated, recently received a negative antigen/PCR test or recovered from Covid-19.
The Statutory Instrument also lists a number of “permitted” events such as sports events and concerts.
For each permitted event, the maximum number of persons who can attend is also listed.
Here are some examples of permitted events;
Cork City v Bray Wanderers League of Ireland match 600 Persons
Róisín Dubh, Galway – Traditional music performance 100 Persons
Cricket Ireland v South Africa 560 Persons
The largest event will be for 7000 persons at the Aviva stadium for the upcoming Ireland v USA international rugby test match.
