Government’s deceptive forum jeopardizes Ireland’s neutrality, warns TD Mattie Mc Grath

In a scathing attack, Mattie McGrath, the leader of the Rural Independent Group of TDs, lambasted the upcoming forum on Ireland’s neutrality, accusing the government of placing the country’s neutral position in peril. McGrath asserts that the forum, scheduled to commence this week, is nothing but a deceptive ploy driven by external forces with an insatiable appetite for war.

Speaking from Tipperary this evening, McGrath vehemently stated, “President Michael D Higgins’ comments on Ireland’s precarious foreign policy ‘drift’ should have been welcomed in any functioning democracy. However, the government’s swift move to censor both the president and his commentary is deeply concerning.”

McGrath expressed strong scepticism towards the government’s claims that the forum aims to foster national discussions on foreign, security, and defense policy. He denounced the forum for lacking transparency and intentionally excluding genuine public participation, casting doubt on its true motives. The TD vehemently criticized the government for discarding direct consultation with the public on this critical policy matter, opting instead for an impartial expert group with suspicious alignments with US militarism.

“Unmistakable evidence of a predetermined agenda emerges as Tanaiste Michael Martin appoints Dame Louise Richardson as the chair of the forum. Richardson’s full title as Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (DBE), strongly insinuates that the government covertly seeks to divert Ireland away from neutrality towards closer ties with NATO and the EU militarization project.”

“The significance of Ireland’s neutrality lies in the nation’s history of colonization and its strained relationship with Britain. Although neutrality may not be explicitly enshrined in the constitution, it has been repeatedly reaffirmed throughout Ireland’s integration into the EU.”

McGrath vehemently called for transparency and honesty, urging the government, even at this late stage of the process, to clarify its true stance on neutrality and spare taxpayers the substantial costs associated with the forum.

In conclusion McGrath declared, “We must fiercely protect and preserve Ireland’s hard-won neutrality. The government’s forum on neutrality is a dangerous manoeuvre that jeopardizes our independence and national identity. We implore the government to heed the concerns of the Irish people and uphold our cherished neutrality.”
