The idea of an Irish person outside of the political establishment gaining any semblance of power is so terrifying regime in power in Ireland, that longstanding and much vaunted plans for a directly elected mayor of Dublin City are being put on hold for fear that Conor McGregor could be elected.

This cowardly row back of the government in its plans for returning a host of powers to Dublin City Council as well as the introduction of a directly elected mayor highlights the disdain in which they hold the Irish people but it’s nothing new.

Twice before, in referenda, Nice and Lisbon, that radically surrendered sovereignty from the Irish people to the unelected bureaucrats of the European Union, the Irish people were told they voted the wrong way and that they must vote again, and this time give the right answer.

The fear of the government that a lackey of the mainstream political class might not win a direct vote for mayor of the capital is real and was verified when Limerick became the first city to elect its mayor in 2024, which saw independent John Moran defeated all the traditional parties.

Now, as the political/media establishment in Ireland rally in a bid to prevent Conor McGregor from achieving a nomination to contest the upcoming Presidential election they are also scrambling to close other avenues in which McGregor or other Irish patriots might attain political positions.

This disturbing trend is seen across the EU where earlier this year Brussels simply cancelled a presidential election in Romania and forbid the winner Călin Georgescu from running again as it he was unlikely to submit to their agenda.

In France, a case which no serious observer can suggest is not politically motivated, the conviction of Marine Le Pen, the front runner to be next occupier of the Élysée Palace, sets another dangerous precedent.

As Irish and other European people awaken to the plotted destruction of their nations, how far will far will the political establishment go to suppress the democratic resistance.

“Those who make peaceful revolutions impossible make violent revolutions inevitable” are the wise and applicable words of President John F. Kennedy which spring to mind.
