The new ruling coalition in Greece is rejecting offers of new loans for the month of February, and a spokesman has said that they will no longer meet with EU and IMF auditors.

Greece was due to receive a fresh cash injection of €7.2 billion in funds from the European Union, the IMF and the European Central Bank, if the country completed the reforms required by its lenders by 28 February.

But the new Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis is taking a hardline stance and has said that his government prefers to decline the offer and intends to renegotiate the entire bailout package.

Varoufakis added that Athens is willing to negotiate with its lenders but not with the so-called “troika” of EU, IMF and ECB auditors, whom he referred to as a “committee built on rotten foundations”.
