Growing fears that so-called ‘wet pubs’ may not be able to open until at least the Autumn

There’s growing concern in the pub industry that so-called ‘wet pubs’ may not be able to open their doors in any capacity until at least the Autumn.

Pubs that sold food, for €9 and up, were able to reopen for part of 2020, but as things stand at this juncture, even that looks highly unlikely for the time being at least.

According to the Government, these establishments won’t be allowed to open until virus figures have been in low double digits for some time.

It is now feared that many ‘wet pubs’ will never reopen after the pandemic is over, especially in rural Ireland where people have gotten used to drinking at home and not socialising in a pub environment.
