Thig in Dublin sentenced to 11 years for vicious assault on ex-partner in locked taxi, saying ‘you are going to die tonight’

An 11-year jail term was handed down to a Kildare man who, for 10 minutes, beat and punched his ex-partner severely in a closed cab, leaving her permanently scarred, reports The Mirror.

In a taxi on Basin Street, Naas, County Kildare, on November 5, 2023, Anthony Mockler, 31, of Station Road, Kildare Town, entered a guilty plea to a charge of willfully inflicting severe damage to his former girlfriend.

Along with admitting to falsely imprisoning the lady and threatening to murder her in the same event, he also entered a guilty plea to another allegation of assaulting a friend who helped the woman, reports The Mirror.

At a Naas Circuit Criminal Court session, it was revealed that the victim needed more than 40 stitches to close the wounds on her face, and the severity of her injuries may have also compromised her mouth’s ability to operate.

According to a study filed by a plastic surgeon, she would have a scar that would be “visible forever,” reports The Mirror.

Mockler, a former Intel employee originating from Monasterevin, County Kildare, also entered a guilty plea to several counts of making threats to murder his victim between October 23, 2023, and November 4, 2023, as well as related safety order violations.

The 28-year-old lady, who is anonymous for legal reasons, stated in a victim impact statement that she thought she would die in the attack.

“I know he intended to kill me that night,” she remarked, reports The Mirror.
