Harris announces plans for €2m in funding for fertility treatment

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has announced plans that will see €2m in funding being allocated for fertility treatment.

In an announcement the Health Minister said the proposals will be submitted before the Dáil in attempt to start the Government’s overall plan that will make fertility treatment options such as IVF available via the public health service.

Although fertility treatment is available in Ireland, it is not covered through the health service and those seeking treatment options are forced to pay high fees as it is only available privately.

Harris added the plans would form a part of the framework for assisted human reproduction.
