Harris apologises ‘unreservedly’ to families of Stardust victims

During a “humbling and emotional” meeting today, the Taoiseach said he “apologised unreservedly” to the families of the Stardust accident victims and survivors, reports RTE.

Additionally, Simon Harris said that on Tuesday in the Dáil, he will offer an apology on behalf of the State.

At Government Buildings, survivors and relatives met with Mr. Harris to consider the language of the State apology.

He stated he had a long talk with the families and loved ones of the 48 victims of the tragedy in a statement this afternoon.

He said: “It was a humbling and emotional meeting. I want to thank every person who attended for what they told me, both as a group and in private individual conversations,” reports RTE.

“However, I am acutely aware that the numbers affected by Stardust is many, many multiples of that. That includes those injured, the people working in Stardust, the frontline workers who fought to save lives on the night,” he added, reports RTE.
