Harris is open to processing asylum applications in third countries

According to Taoiseach Simon Harris, he is amenable to a migration reform that would see asylum applicants’ claims handled by third parties, reports Breaking News.

Fine Gael is a member of the European People’s Party (EPP), which is the organisation that has proposed the proposal.

Mr. Harris was questioned on an analogous agreement between Italy and Albania, reports Breaking News.

According to Minister for Integration Roderic O’Gorman, the government ought to concentrate on internal immigration policies.

Asked if Fine Gael supports the proposal put forward by the EPP, Mr Harris said: “I think we should have a very open mind in relation to this because if we’ve learned anything about the migration challenges, that it is a global challenge. Indeed so much of the migration that we see here in Ireland – immigration is a good thing by the way, our country has benefited from it – but we do have to have rules and a rules-based system,” reports Breaking News.
