Taoiseach Simon Harris has sent his sympathies for the sudden floods that killed at least 158 persons in Spain, reports Breaking News.
In the south and east of Spain, the biggest natural catastrophe in decades has left a path of devastation, including uprooted trees, collapsed power lines, and automobiles stacked on top of each other.
On Thursday evening, Taoiseach Simon Harris spoke with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, expressing Ireland’s “horror and sorrow” at the death toll, reports Breaking News.
Ireland would “help in every way we can,” Mr. Harris said, adding that the growing accounts of suffering and loss are devastating.
Mr. Sanchez expressed gratitude to the Irish people for their warmth and unity, reports Breaking News.
The floods were described as “illustrative of the worsening climate situation” by TĂ¡naiste MicheĂ¡l Martin this week.
He said: “I think it points to the need for stronger adaptation across Europe, within Ireland as well, given the impacts that climate change is now having. The indications are that climate change is here, it’s happening, so we’ve got to adapt,” reports Breaking News.
