Harris, who fronted abortion campaign, says Israel is involved in war on children

It is understood that a number of Irish nationals in Gaza are being informed that their names may be included on a list of people who will be able to get permission to cross the Rafah crossing into Egypt tomorrow, reports RTE.

Earlier Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the government was doing everything in its power to protect the Irish people in Gaza.

He previously said there were about 40 Irish nationals in Gaza.

Speaking on RTÉ’s News at One program today, he said the situation was rapidly deteriorating and the government had no intention of changing its call for a humanitarian ceasefire, reports RTE.

He said such a ceasefire should be respected by all sides, “not just by Israel, also by Hamas, and Islamic Jihad” and it “would allow power, fuel, medicines and aid to get into Gaza, would allow for hostages to be released, would allow for citizens to leave and that is our position”, reports RTE.

The Prime Minister said the EU has called for a humanitarian pause, but the government believes a humanitarian ceasefire is necessary.

He said: “Some people believe that means Israel not being able to go after individual terrorists. I don’t think that’s the case. But that’s part of the reason why some people won’t agree to that language,” reports RTE.
