Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the environment secretary had no choice but to return from Dubai this week to seek a confidence vote in the Dáil, reports RTE.
Eamon Ryan will have to interrupt his attendance at the COP28 climate conference in the United Arab Emirates but will return to the event after Tuesday’s vote.
Following the riots in Dublin, Sinn Féin tabled a motion of no confidence in Justice Minister Helen McEntee, reports RTE.
The government is confident of winning the polls.
Mr Varadkar said Ryan had no choice as the vote was a vote of confidence and was tied in case of TD’s illness or incapacity.
“There are no pairs for confidence motions other than for illness, so as a result of that, Minister Ryan will have to go home and come back again,” Mr Varadkar said, reports RTE.
