“He shouldn’t bother going” – People say Novak Djokovic should boycott Australia after the disgraceful way they treated him

Many people online have been debating about whether Novak Djokovic should bother going to Australia in January after the way they tried to publicly and internationally embarrass the tennis great.

Some people are saying that he should snub them, even though he’s chasing Nadal’s Grandslam title count of 22.

Novak Djokovic has received a visa to play the Australian Open in January, The Guardian Australia and state broadcaster ABC reported on Tuesday.

Djokovic, who is Serbian, was kicked out of Australia before the Grand Slam in January after refusing to be vaccinated. The former world number one was originally banned from the country until 2025.

ABC said it confirmed that Immigration Minister Andrew Giles lifted that ban, allowing Djokovic to compete.

A spokesman for Australia’s Immigration Ministry declined to comment on the reports.

Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said this month that Djokovic would be welcome in January if he could get a visa, but that Tennis Australia was unable to lobby on his behalf.

Australia in July rescinded a rule requiring international travellers to declare their Covid vaccination status, and Djokovic said in October that he received “positive signs” about the status of efforts to lift his ban.
