Health Minister warns that case numbers need to come down much more before society can reopen




The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said that it is difficult to predict when society will begin to reopen, but warned that case numbers need to come down much more before any lifting of restrictions can be considered.

Speaking to RTE, the Health Minister said that there is still major uncertainty in terms effectiveness of vaccines on what impact they have of on transmission of the disease.

He also stated that the the threat of new variants is making it difficult for the Government and our health experts to predict an end to Level 5 restrictions.

Donnelly told the programme that although steady progress is being made numbers need to come down much more before we can consider reopening society.

He added that is too early to give any accurate predictions of when we can exi Level 5 restrictions.
