Heartbreaking: Parents of 10 month old Charlie Gard lose their final appeal to bring their terminally ill son to the US for experimental treatment

In a truly heartbreaking story the parents of 10 month old Charlie Gard have lost their appeal to bring their terminally ill son to the US so that he can receive experimental treatment which could potentially save his life.

The brave parents who have been fighting to save Charlie’s life have now been told by the European Court of Human Rights that their son’s life support must now be switched off after they lost their final appeal.

The devastating and gut wrenching news comes after the desperate parents Chris Gard and Connie Yates issued a plea to the court intervene and overrule the British courts system and allow them to take their terminally ill son to the US.

However despite raising more than £1 million pounds to help their son who suffers from a rare genetic condition and has brain damage, both Chris and Connie have now been informed that cannot take little Charlie abroad as the experimental treatment will not help him as it has not proven to be successful in previous patients.

In a statement, the European Court announced that it had by a majority ‘endorsed in substance’ the approach by the UK courts ‘and thus declared the application inadmissible’.

It added that ‘consequently’, the court ‘also considered that it was appropriate to lift the interim measure’ which had required doctors to continue providing life support treatment to Charlie.
