There have been ongoing reports of this type of con for the last two years. This summer alone, six or seven incidents have been reported to Gardai.

Most cases involve one or two people going door to door asking for money for the suicide prevention charity Pieta House. There have been incidents reported in Lucan, Leixlip, Stillorgan, Ballyfermot and Rathgar.

A spokesperson for Pieta House has said that “If someone wishes to fundraise on behalf of Pieta House, they must have our written permission.

“If they are having a street collection, they must have written permission from Pieta House and a Garda permit, both of which they must carry at all times.”

Gardai have been making enquiries into the matter, but no arrests have been made so far.
