Heartwarming: Dad builds custom “Ireland Wheelchair” for his son as they head off to France to support the boys in green

Philip Monaghan from Drogheda is travelling to France today for 13 days, taking in 3 Irish group games on the way.

Joined by his wife Annette, Philip will also have a very special passenger en route to the French capital with him, his son Jamie.

17-yr-old Jamie has Mosaic Trisomy 9, a very rare problem which essentially means he has an extra 9th chromosome.

The teenager loves football, and Philip decided to go the extra mile to make the trip extra special.

Philip took in to building a custom-made “Ireland Wheelchair” for his son.

Philips daughter Aoifa told The Liberal:
“It took a week to build. He spray painted the wheel covers and footplates, taped the frame in green, white and orange tape, got special flags made and even got the Ireland squad to sign the wheel covers!”

The family are said to be very excited about the Euro’s and one thing is for sure “Jamie on tour” is sure to make a great impression in France.
