Enoch Burke, a transgender row teacher, may serve an additional term in Mountjoy Prison for his refusal to leave the school after he was fired in January of last year, reports The Mirror.
Mr. Burke has been ordered by a court to appear before the High Court for violating an order to avoid Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath.
Since it reopened following the summer vacation, the Evangelical Christian has been attending the school in Multyfarnham, County Westmeath, reports The Mirror.
Mr. Burke did not show up to the High Court yesterday, but he did spend some time back at the school.
But yesterday afternoon, photos of him and his sister Ammi and mother Martina were taken outside the Four Courts building.
Less than two months have passed since the High Court freed Mr. Burke from Mountjoy Prison, where he had served more than 400 days for defying a court order to avoid the school. Mr. Burke is back at Wilson’s Hospital School, reports The Mirror.
In response to being required to refer to a transitioning kid by a new name and the pronoun “they,” which he said went against his religious convictions, he was first suspended from the school in the summer of 2022.
Speaking to The Mirror last week at the school, a feisty Mr. Burke vowed to keep showing up since “this is where I work,” reports The Mirror.
But he acknowledged that he detested spending his time inside at Mountjoy Prison.
When asked what his time in prison was like he said: “I detest prison. It’s a horrible, sad place. It’s a terrible place to be behind a door for 18 hours a day. But the issue is, prison is for people who break the law, and in this case, I’m here doing my moral duty. This is where I should be today,” reports The Mirror.
