An Italian priest infected with coronavirus tragically died after giving his respirator to a younger patient who was also battling the disease.
Friar Don Giuseppe Berardelli, 72, was the priest of the parish of Casnigo, a small town just 40 miles northeast of Milan.
Sadly, he died at the Lovere hospital in Bergamo, one of the most affected areas in Italy. According to the hospital, he refused to use a ventilator that his parishioners bought him and gave it to a younger patient whom he didn’t even know.
The priest was described as a “hero” and a “great person” with an obituary on Araberara, an Italian news website, reporting:
“He was a priest who listened to everyone, he knew how to listen, whoever turned to him knew that he could count on his help.”
