Large areas of the historic city of Venice are underwater, in some of the worst flooding that Venice has seen in over fifty years.
Scientists are blaming climate change for the event, which caused a tidal level measured as 6.14ft. The last time that Venice flooded this bad was 1966, where the tide reached a height of 6.36ft.
Popular landmarks like St. Mark’s Square are completely underwater, with cafes, restaurants, and other businesses left in ruins.
Local politicians are now calling for the Italian Government to help, saying that the cost of cleanup operations will be ‘high’.
