Holohan heads off into the sunset with a massive pension in his back pocket – CMO has stepped down after 14 years in the job

Dr Tony Holohan will retire today from his €187,000 annual position as Chief Medical Director.

He has held the position for 14 years and has been in the spotlight during the Covid pandemic. Many people weren’t happy with the disgraceful draconian restrictions imposed on the Irish public during the pandemic, with many people blaming Holohan for directing the government to implement such measures.

He will be temporarily replaced by Professor Breda Smyth while the position is made permanent.

Some people went on to say that they weren’t sure whether it was Holohan of the Varadkar/Martin who were actually meant to be running the country.

The job was advertised on publicjobs.ie for several weeks with an annual salary of around €180,000.

Holohan was due to start a secondment at Trinity College Dublin today but it was scrapped after controversy surrounding the appointment.

The now former CMO will head off into the sunset with a massive pension in his pocket.
