Homeless families could be relocated to the countryside, according to Government plans

The Government is said to be considering a “rural relocation scheme” as part of a raft of measures being considered to alleviate the current homelessness crisis.

It is understood that a sub-committee on Social Exclusion will discuss the measures in the coming weeks.

Under the proposals, vacant countryside houses would be advertised to homeless families through the “choice-based lettings” system.

Such system is currently used to advertise council houses which are difficult to let. People on housing lists are able to jump the queue in exchange of getting a dwelling which may be less than desirable.
