Police in India have confirmed that a 37 year old man has been arrested after an elderly woman was raped multiple times in Delhi.
According to The Times of India, the arrest comes after a 90 year old woman was lured from her home and brutally raped in Najagarh area of the city.
It is reported that the elderly woman who suffered extensive injuries was attacked as she waited for a milkman to arrive at her home.
Police investigating the incident say the elderly woman was lured to a remote area by the accused after he told the elderly woman that her milkman wasn’t coming.
It is alleged that the accused offered to take her elsewhere to get some milk, but he then proceeded to attack her.
The brutal attack which occurred on September 7th, is the latest in a series of serious sexual assaults that has occurred in the country.
According to recently published figures there were 32,500 cases of rape in the country in 2017.
However authorities believe that there could be more as many cases go unreported.
