“House the Irish first” – People are demanding homeless Irish born citizens are housed before any migrants

People are demanding that Irish citizens be given full preference before any migrants who come into the country and appear to jump the queue ahead of those on the housing waiting lists.

Ireland will continue to take in thousands of migrants in the coming years, yet Ireland’s own citizens are sleeping on streets and in tents with nowhere to turn and apparently very way of getting help.

Social media users have been making the comparison that Ireland’s government appears to want to help migrants who come into the country more than they do their own citizens.

As thousands of Irish people sleep rough around the country on streets, park benches and hotel rooms, RTE’s “Stuck in a rough” was very hard viewing.

Many social media users say that Ireland should look after its own before taking in thousands of migrants from around the world, and this documentary would certainly back up those claims.

Dan Orlovs is only 20 years old and was one of the main people featured in the documentary. He’s been waking up for months with severe pain in his legs as he sleeps rough. Sleeping on the streets of Dublin with little more than cardboard for insulation is not good for your body, he explained.

It’s just one terrible example of how Micheal Martin, Leo Varadkar, Eamon Ryan, Simon Harris and Stephen Donnelly have let the people of Ireland down.
